Concord Originals is the film and TV division of music and theatre juggernaut, Concord. The team develops and produces stories anchored by Concord’s artists, music and theatrical works, taking a proactive, narrative-driven approach to each project, and partnering with A-list storytellers to produce premium content for screen and beyond. The division’s slate is comprised of feature films, series, documentaries, and podcasts and its partners include Disney, HBO, Paramount, Netflix, Skydance, Telemundo Streaming Studios, Nuyorican Productions, Samuel Goldwyn Films, 3AD, Sky Arts and many others.

 

 

As the Production & Development Manager, you'll be responsible for  supporting Concord Originals in managing its development, production and post-production activities across its slate of scripted and unscripted projects in film and television. This junior executive will be instrumental in reviewing potential material for development and advising on project viability, advancing projects in development by supporting Originals’ team members, and facilitating production and post-production processes on an ad hoc basis per project needs. The position requires a passion for film and TV development, a detail-oriented work philosophy, a degree of autonomy in performing tasks and managing logistics, a “team player” mindset and collaborative, roll-up-the-sleeves energy. The position will analyze new and existing IP from the various divisions of Concord and comment on its contemporary viability as well as lend muscle to project-specific production and post-production tasks.

 

The ideal candidate will have experience reviewing screenplays and classic films, have relationships in the literary management and agency spaces, as well as a strong understanding of the film and TV business. The position requires a constant drive to review material, support Originals’ development and production executives, and manage aspects of production and post-production processes on active projects. This position works under moderate supervision of the Vice President of Development and the Vice President of Production & Distribution.

Responsibilities

What you'll do:

  • Review, analyze and report on pre-existing materials (screenplays, historic films)
  • Devise packaging strategies for projects in development
  • Manage production processes, particularly on documentary projects
  • Coordinate post-production/delivery steps
  • Support team executives with administrative tasks

 

Specific Functions:

 

  • Review, analyze and report on pre-existing materials (screenplays, historic films)
    • Read pre-existing screenplays, submitted spec material, writer samples and watch pre-existing films and filmmaker samples, then write coverage on reviewed material to advise on potential project viability
    • Liaise with management companies and talent agencies to procure relevant materials
    • Draft comparative analysis documents between differing iterations of prior projects (e.g. source material vs. completed film vs. pre-existing draft screenplay for potential remake)

 

  • Devise packaging strategies for projects in development
    • Propose development and producing strategies for senior executives’ review (e.g. writer/director lists, proposed market placement for potential projects)
    • Work with Originals’ Coordinator on assembling decks for project submissions
    • Devise strategies for updating library IP for the contemporary film/TV marketplace and culture
    • Network with junior executives to glean buyer/studio mandates to inform slate strategies

 

  • Manage production processes, particularly on documentary projects
    • Work closely with the VP, Production & Distribution to track and manage specific aspects of the production process
    • On a case-by-case basis, review and log archive material for production purposes, act as a production coordinator on specific film shoots or interview captures, procure vendor quotes for certain budget line items, procure signatures on release agreements, etc.
    • Compile tracking grids pertaining to active production and/or assist with tracking delivery timelines for projects in active distribution

 

  • Coordinate post-production/delivery steps
    • Support the VP, Production & Distribution in overseeing post-production, delivery, and distribution of active projects on the producing/distribution slate
    • Receive delivery from third party filmmakers/production companies/distribution partners and ensure materials are migrated to and backed up in Concord systems
    • As instructed, chase third parties for key deliverables for distribution-ready films
    • As instructed, coordinate with outside vendors and film labs to finalize film distribution assets including DCPs, trailer files, subtitled and/or localized versions
    • On occasion, assemble deliverables (e.g. draft music cue sheets, review caption files, film metadata sheets)

 

  • Support team executives with administrative tasks
    • Attend team meetings and complete note-taking tasks, particularly with relation to drafting notes documents for writers/filmmakers on active projects
    • Support in distribution tracking on completed projects

Qualifications

What you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in film, television, entertainment business, or related discipline or the equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • 5+ years in the Film/TV industry
  • Understanding of scripted and unscripted feature and series development processes
  • Prior exposure to development, packaging and selling of Film/TV projects
  • Prior experience in production coordination and/or post-production coordination
  • Knowledge of and affinity for classic films; strong sense of taste for Film/TV content
  • Self-starter — initiative and ability to create opportunity

  • Hyper-communicator — adept at keeping disparate stakeholders informed and involved in decision making

Salary Range: $65,000 - 75,000

 

*This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days minimum on-site.
