The Boosey & Hawkes Promotion Intern will gain an understanding of orchestral concert and opera programming, through research projects and other means of discovery. Working closely with the Director of Promotion, and the Promotion and Marketing team, the intern will complete research projects as assigned, with the objective of identifying areas of the classical music performance market where there are opportunities for Boosey & Hawkes to expand or refine our current reach. The intern will regularly report on findings to help steer our departmental goals and strategy for the coming year.

 

Our paid internship program will give you a unique opportunity to enhance your professional skillset, increase your knowledge of the industry, and expand your network. Our goal is to help you develop your talents as well as receive dedicated mentorship and support. Our summer Internship Program will run from Tuesday, June 3rd – Friday, August 15th and allows interns to work up to a maximum of 20 hours per week. This internship is a paid in-person opportunity and requires the ability to work in the specified office location. 

Responsibilities

What you'll do:

  • Conduct research projects as assigned into orchestral and operatic programming by US and Canadian orchestras and opera companies. Specific areas of research will include:
    • programming tied to the upcoming 250th anniversary of American Independence;
    • programming for families and young audiences;
    • programming of music by historical composers whose music was suppressed by the Nazi regime (as it relates to the Boosey & Hawkes “Suppressed Music” catalog).
  • Participate in weekly Promotion team meetings, regular one-on-ones with Director of Promotion and other meetings as they arise.
  • Regularly report on findings to Boosey Promotion and Marketing team to help steer our departmental goals and strategy for the coming year.
  • Gain an understanding of orchestral and opera programming trends from the perspective of a music publisher.
  • Gain insight into the business of classical music publishing, and the role that music publishers play within the global classical music industry.

 

Qualifications

What you'll need:

  • Background in classical music; specifically, candidate should have already completed or be working towards a degree in classical music performance, composition, education, arts administration, musicology, or some other related field.
  • An interest in arts administration.
  • Strong research and organizational skills.
  • This internship is a part-time paid internship and requires someone located in/near New York City.
  • The timeline of this internship program runs from Tuesday, June 3rd—Friday, August 15th. You must be able to work 20 hours/week.
