Position Purpose:  This role reports to the VP of Digital Business and Legal Affairs who oversees the global digital business for Concord Music Publishing. This position will support the digital business team and be responsible for managing the contracts that cover the global digital business for music publishing and assist with U.S. rights management and enforcement activities.

Responsibilities

What you’ll do:

  • Provide support to VP, Digital Business & Legal Affairs, Publishing, who oversees the global digital business for Concord Music Publishing
  • Legal administration of existing blanket and catalog-wide publishing licenses
    • Tracking key dates and other material terms
    • Preparing service briefs for internal use
    • Liaising with appropriate people and departments after deal completion, from contract signing to invoicing, catalog delivery, etc.
  • Help manage the internal and external communications across relevant departments (e.g., copyright, royalty, etc.)
  • Provide legal support to and work closely with the Copyright and Rights Optimization departments in U.S.-based rights management and enforcement matters, e.g., publisher rights management systems, DMCA takedown programs, etc., for the music publishing division

Qualifications

What you’ll need to succeed:

  • Has 5+ years of paralegal or equivalent experience at a music publishing or digital media company, or at a law firm (IP, entertainment or corporate)
  • Can internalize how a digital service or new piece of technology works and explain the user experience in non-technical terms
  • Knows or is interested to learn the difference between recorded music and music publishing from a music business perspective and in the context of U.S. copyright law
  • Has a general understanding of the Digital Millennial Copyright Act (DMCA) and related rules and policy
  • Loves data and follows new media trends for fun
  • Is conscientious and detail-oriented, and can manage large volumes of sensitive information with utmost discretion and care

Salary range: $70k-$80k

 

This is a hybrid role and requires 3 days in office
